Has anyone ever tried to launch in 2nd gear?

I have a co-worker that thinks 1st gear is too short on his stock VW Jetta, so he starts off in 2nd gear driving normal. It stutters at first, but then it gets moving. I was just wondering with all the power you guys have that it might work without stuttering. Just a thought.

wouldn't that kill your clutch? I don't think it would work too well unless you had a whole lot of torque to help keep your rpms up when your launch and go.

Last week at the track I tried to launch in 2nd gear......I don't know what RPM I was at, but it didn't work

Well, theres still a chance it might work. Just out of habit, you might have launched at the same RPM you would in 1st gear. 2nd gear will obviously need more, so try it again with some more RPM's.
